Vincent Nguini
Symphony-Bantu
By Ralph Burnett It probably hasn't hurt Vincent Nguini's career that he provided much of the guitar flavorings on Paul Simon's widely heralded recording, Rhythm of the Saints. And with the release of his Mesa Records debut, Symphony-Bantu, Cameroonian guitarist Vincent Nguini is well on his way to individual acclaim as a leader. Fusing contemporary jazz and the uplifting beats of traditional African highlife, Nguini projects his signature electric guitar stylings through his original compositions and dynamic arrangements. Adding their own unique signatures to Symphony-Bantu, (an album that has been four-years in the making), are guest performances by renowned saxophonist Michael Brecker, vocalist Maxine Waters, and Strunz & Farah percussionists Paul Tchounga and "Long John" Oliva. |
